During the 1964 election Kennedy was running against Barry Goldwater and won by a land slide of 80 percent. In Kennedy's second term, he kept the United States out of Vietnam. Kennedy reduced number troops and eventually removed the United States from Vietnam. Since the United States did not enter Vietnam there were no peace groups and hippies, which changed the 60s.

Kennedy helped the U.S. with poverty and helped bring in new science programs. With the United States being first on the moon he involved new science programs within schools. These programs helped advance the schools. John F. Kennedy also achieved his goal of spreading democracy and freedom around the world. He helped the USSR with this by befriending them which eventually helped bring peace between the United States and Cuba.

Since the United States backed out of Vietnam, in the 1968 election Nixon was not elected president.
